The plan we are moving forward with is to launch a new server in anticipation of Jump to Lightspeed and SWGEMU 1.0. We will first be determining which of our content to keep and which to re-think or discard, then we’ll be taking the summer to work on new design and re-design of our worlds. Specifically, we’re focusing on one planet for a major overhaul, I’m sure we’ll drop previews after we begin.
I believe that by the end of the summer, beginning of fall, I will start re-building our content on top of a clone of EMU’s Finalizer. We already have a staff-funded test server that is running the old S2 code to build and test on. I hope that we can open this server up for some beta testing rounds this fall, and for some nostalgia, but no promises. That would just be a bonus and a tribute to the place we created and lived in. We want to remain very focused and efficient for this run, though. Even having so much work and experience behind us, this is still a massive commitment.
The fate of this Discord server is still up in the air. I like the integrations and the communication possibilities, but I don’t want to deal with the negatives, either. We may go with an old-school forum on the website. For now, I’ve turned reactions back on, but it’s just going to be an announcement board for anyone who is still interested in our project. We hope to justify, re-capture, and create new interest. This next one is going to be different, but hopefully even more rewarding and sustainable.
